Speaking at the official trailer launch event for Cocktail 2 in Mumbai, actor Kriti Sanon opened up about the intensive physical preparation required to portray her character, Ally. To achieve the highly stylized, contemporary look demanded by the script, the actor had to adhere to a strict calorie-deficit diet while filming on location in Italy.
Addressing the media panel, Kriti revealed that navigating a restrictive food regime while surrounded by local Italian cuisine proved to be a significant personal challenge. “For the first time in my life I was on a strict diet and that too in Italy,” Kriti stated. “I think Shahid can vouch for a fact that I was extremely cranky and hangry all the time. I mean everything was worth it.”

The Challenge of a Calorie Deficit in Sicily
The rigorous fitness and dietary schedule marked a distinct departure for the actor, who noted that she had never previously subjected herself to such strict caloric boundaries. The situation was further compounded by the production’s primary schedule in Sicily, placing the cast directly amidst traditional regional foods like pasta and pizza.
Co-star Shahid Kapoor witnessed the daily reality of this strict regimen on set. Despite the mood shifts caused by the intensive diet, Kriti emphasized that the final visual results onscreen justified the demanding routine, especially as early promotional materials and character reveals began generating positive feedback from audiences.
A Mindful Transition After Heavy Drama
The choice to join Homi Adajania’s urban romantic comedy-drama served as a deliberate creative transition for Kriti. Following her emotionally heavy performance in the intense drama Tere Ishk Mein, she actively sought out a project set within a younger, visually refreshing space. This standalone spiritual sequel balances lighthearted relationship dynamics with grounded, modern emotional choices.
- The Central Dynamic: The narrative tracks a complicated contemporary love triangle involving characters Kunal (Shahid Kapoor), Diya (Rashmika Mandanna), and Ally (Kriti Sanon).
- A Fresh Canvas: While retaining the underlying thematic essence of the 2012 original, the sequel features entirely separate backstories, updated flaws, and modern relationship hurdles.
- The Release Framework: Backed by Maddock Films and Luv Films, the project is moving swiftly through its final distribution preparations ahead of its worldwide theatrical launch on June 19, 2026.
With the three-minute trailer now circulating actively across major digital platforms, the promotional momentum continues to build toward the film’s upcoming mid-June release window.
