CBFC orders 96-second cut in Lakshya and Ananya Panday’s ‘Chand Mera Dil’ ahead of release

Ahead of its highly anticipated theatrical release on May 22, the upcoming romantic drama Chand Mera Dil has hit a regulatory hurdle. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly mandated significant edits to the film’s intimate sequences to grant it a clearance certificate.

The censorship breakdown

The film, which features the fresh pairing of Lakshya and Ananya Panday, has been granted a U/A 16+ certificate by the board. However, this approval came only after the filmmakers agreed to specific modifications.

According to reports, the board identified 96 seconds of kissing and romantic footage that required attention. Specifically, the makers were directed to remove a 10-second kissing sequence and replace it with alternative visuals. Additionally, the board requested the complete deletion of further lip-lock scenes, which accounted for an additional 1 minute and 26 seconds of the film’s runtime.

Beyond these cuts, the CBFC also required the production team to provide formal consent documentation for all child actors involved in the project.

Impact on the film’s release

With these adjustments finalized, the film’s runtime has been locked at 135 minutes and 36 seconds. The production, backed by Dharma Productions and directed by Vivek Soni, has successfully completed all necessary board formalities, clearing the path for its debut in cinemas this coming Friday.

Despite the censorship buzz, Chand Mera Dil remains a focal point for moviegoers this week. The project has garnered attention for its intense romantic narrative and the chemistry between the leads. As the film gears up for its big-screen debut, excitement remains high, with advance bookings already opening for fans to secure their seats.
