Janhvi Kapoor to play a fearless village belle named Achiyyamma
For her second major Telugu outing, Janhvi Kapoor is trading glamorous urban silhouettes for a masterclass in rustic authenticity. In a recent media interaction, the film’s cinematographer, R. Rathnavelu, revealed that the actress will be stepping into the shoes of a character named Achiyyamma. She is reportedly playing the daughter of a prominent village official, with veteran actor Rao Ramesh essaying the role of her father.

Channeling a raw and energetic vibe, Janhvi’s character is described as a fearless and charming village belle. The makers previously teased her look through character posters and the vibrant track “Chikiri Chikiri,” which showcased her in a fiery, traditional avatar. Embracing her desi roots on screen, her rustic wardrobe and expressive screen presence have already sparked fan theories, with some even speculating that she might be playing a singer in a local village troupe.

Set against the rustic backdrop of the 1980s in Andhra Pradesh, Peddi revolves around a rural cricket tournament and mud wrestling, where Ram Charan’s character, Peddi Pehelwan, uses sports to protect his community’s honor. Janhvi’s Achiyyamma is expected to bring a strong emotional anchor and vibrant energy to this high-octane narrative, perfectly balancing the intense action with her timeless desi elegance.

The magnum opus, produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru, boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu Sharma, and Boman Irani. With music composed by the legendary A. R. Rahman, the pan-India film is officially slated to hit the theatres on June 4, 2026.
