Swasika Takes Centre Stage In Nooru Saami Trailer; Vijay Antony-Sasi Film Set For June 19 Release

The official trailer for the upcoming Tamil film Nooru Saami has been released, offering a glimpse into a hard-hitting rural drama centered on societal prejudice and familial bonds. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sasi, the project marks his highly anticipated reunion with actor-composer Vijay Antony a decade after their 2016 blockbuster Pichaikkaran. The film is officially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 19, 2026, and will also debut simultaneously in Telugu under the title Vanda Devullu.

A Decade After Pichaikkaran: A Standalone Narrative

While the title Nooru Saami is derived from a popular track in Pichaikkaran, director Sasi has explicitly clarified that this film is a completely standalone narrative rather than a sequel. The director-actor duo previously delivered one of the biggest commercial and critical hits of 2016, establishing high benchmarks for emotional storytelling. With Nooru Saami, the crew returns to a grounded, realistic setting, exploring intense social themes inspired by a real-life incident.

Swasika Leads the Core Narrative as Selvi

The newly unveiled trailer indicates that Swasika takes center stage in the film, portraying a character named Selvi. Selvi is a widowed single mother raising two sons in a conservative village environment. The plot intensifies as her children grow older, and her personal life choices become the subject of severe scrutiny, judgment, and backlash from the traditional village community. The narrative explores her resilience against rigid social boundaries and entrenched caste prejudices that dictate life in the locality.

Vijay Antony’s Transformative, Pivotal Character

Contrary to standard expectations of a traditional lead role, Vijay Antony plays a supporting yet pivotal character in the film. Director Sasi confirmed in recent promotional statements that Vijay Antony portrays a local sugarcane farmer. Despite having relatively limited screen time compared to his usual leading roles, his character carries significant weight in the narrative progression. To accurately represent the rural worker, the actor underwent a physical transformation, including a skin-tanning process and opting for oversized, realistic attire to fit the grounded aesthetic of the film.

Cast Debuts and Technical Team

Nooru Saami introduces a fresh dynamic to the screen with a dual-protagonist structure. Alongside Vijay Antony, the film marks the acting debut of his real-life nephew, Ajay Dhishan, who plays one of Selvi’s sons. Acclaimed actress Lijomol Jose, known for her powerful performances in intense dramas, also features in a crucial supporting role that adds depth to the village dynamics.

The film is produced by Fatima Vijay Antony and Vijay Antony under the banner of Vijay Antony Film Corporation, and is presented by Meera Vijay Antony. On the technical front, the project features a musical score composed by Balaji Sriram. The visual language of the rural landscape is captured by cinematographer SB Darshan Kirlosh, while the film’s pacing and structure are managed by editor Harish Yuvaraj.
