Vidhu And Preethi Asrani’s 29 Now Streaming On Netflix In Multi-Languages

Director Rathna Kumar’s critically acclaimed coming-of-age romantic drama, 29, has officially made its digital debut. Exactly four weeks after its theatrical premiere on May 8, 2026, the film is now available for streaming on global OTT giant Netflix. To cater to a broad pan-India audience, Netflix is streaming the movie in its original Tamil language along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

The film features Vidhu (known for his role in Jigarthanda DoubleX) and Preethi Asrani (of Ayothi fame) in the lead roles. Certified U/A 13+, the narrative struck a chord with urban youth during its theatrical run for its realistic, grounded portrayal of millennial and Gen-Z struggles, existential dread, and the societal pressures that accompany turning 30.

The Dilemma of the Late Twenties

The core narrative of 29 revolves around Sathya (Vidhu), a quirky 29-year-old corporate worker who finds himself facing an existential crisis. Despite holding a stable job and living a normal life, he finds himself deeply overwhelmed by unanswered questions regarding identity, future security, and personal purpose as his twenties draw to a close.

Sathya’s routine take on life undergoes a significant shift after a chance encounter with a free-spirited woman named Vijayalakshmi, aka Viji (Preethi Asrani). As they navigate an unexpected journey together filled with laughter and unlikely friendships, Viji’s unique perspective prompts Sathya to view his own life, ambitions, and personal growth through a completely different lens.

A Stellar Creative Collaboration

Beyond its relatable story, 29 stands out due to the high-profile powerhouse collaboration behind its production. The movie is jointly backed by Kaarthikeyan Santhanam under the Stone Bench Creations banner (founded by Karthik Subbaraj) and action-filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj’s indie production house, G Squad. This marks a notable shift for Rathna Kumar—who previously directed Gulu Gulu and co-wrote massive action features with Lokesh Kanagaraj—as he returns to a pure, emotion-driven drama format.

The film’s supporting cast includes notable performances from Mahendran as Santhosh, Avinash as Mani, Shehnaz Fathima as Jaanu, and Prem Kumar. The technical foundation of the film has also garnered significant praise, particularly the soulful musical score and soundtrack composed by Sean Roldan, which beautifully complements the film’s emotional arcs. The cinematography is handled by Madhesh Manickam, with editing done by RS Sathish Kumar. For viewers looking for a heartfelt, realistic romance drama this weekend, 29 is now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
